A map of the Sommer Islands once called Bermudas lying in the bay of Mexico.

A hand coloured antique map of Bermuda, engraved on copper plate by Abraham Goos and published in John Speeds ‘Prospect of the most Famous Parts of the World’ Published buy Bassett & Chiswell.

The decorative cartouche is in both English and Latin. It is the first English printed map published in an atlas to show Bermuda divided into Tribes and Shares. These divisions designated the properties given to the ‘Adventurers,’ led by Sir George Sommers, who were shipwrecked there in 1609.
