Description
This beautiful framed set of six prints of palms are original, antique, engravings which have been hand coloured with watercolours. These rare prints are some of the most iconic and sort after botanical prints. Due to popularity these images are often reproduced, but a collection of six original prints is extremely rare. They have been hand framed in dark wood, with dark green suede mounts to compliment the images.
They were drawn by Georg Dionysius Ehret (1708-1770) a botanist and entomologist best known for his botanical illustrations. Ehret began as a gardener’s apprentice near Heidelberg and became one of the more influential European botanical artists of all time.
Published in 1750 in Griffith Hughes’ ‘Natural History of Barbados’.
